New IdTA Starlight League for Treasure Valley

posted Apr 18, 2014, 2:17 PM by IdTennis Leagues

The Idaho Tennis Association is pleased to announce the new IdTA Starlight League that will play Friday and Saturday evenings through the summer at Fort Boise under the lights.  League play will begin at 9 p.m.  This new league is a completely different league opportunity for players as each team match will consist of one men's doubles match, one women's doubles match and one mixed doubles match.  This is an exclusive leave that can only field a maximum of four teams at the 6.0 level and a maximum o four teams at the 7.0 level.

With four teams at each level each team will receive nine team matches between June 13-September 13.  The first four teams to meet the minimum number of three men and three women registered before the team deadline on May 28 will be guaranteed a spot in this new, unique league.

Players should note that this league could conflict with Sanctioned and Non-Sanctioned Tournaments as well as USTA Sectional Championship events.  Teams are encouraged to have enough players on their team to fill every team match as no reschedules are allowed.  Matches will need to start promptly at 9 p.m.  as lights shut off automatically at 11 p.m. due to city ordinance.  If match is still in play when the lights shut off the score would be recorded from the last completed point before the lights shut off.   These matches would be recorded as a “Timed Match” in TennisLink (Finished matches are reported as “Completed” in TennisLink.)  This league has no advancement opportunities.

Local Pro's Family Suffers Medical Expenses in Fight for Son's Life

posted Apr 16, 2014, 2:56 PM by IdTennis Leagues

Crane Creek Country Club Head Pro Adam King has recently returned from Florida where he and his family have been dealing with the medical emergency of their son, Brodie. While finishing up his senior year of high school in Tallahassee and living with his grandparents, Brodie developed Wegener's disease, a rare but very serious and life-threatening autoimmune disease. He was transferred from the local hospital in Tallahassee to the University of Florida Medical Center in Gainesville where he was in intensive care for three weeks (including frightening days on total life support). Medical personnel and his family worked diligently to save his life. Happily, he has stabilized and is back home with his grandparents. Although he won't be able to return to his high school classes, he is on track to graduate, despite this major setback in his young life. Go Brodie!!

As some players already know, an account at US Bank has been established to help Adam and his family meet the unexpected and mounting expenses associated with these last few weeks--medical co-pays, last minute flights to Florida for the family, food and lodging during the Gainesville stay, and this list goes on.

A few diligent Crane Creek members looking to raise at least $10,000 to help Adam weather this crisis.

Here’s how player's can help: Deposit slips with the name and account number are available at the Crane Creek Country Club Tennis Desk to facilitate their support. Simply write your check out to "TEAM BRODIE" and include a deposit slip in the amount of your check (or cash), place them in the envelope, and give it to the front desk. Alyson, the Crane Creek front desk personnel, will make sure the donations are deposited each day.

Or

If you would like to donate directly at a US Bank branch, the account number is 153355366904.  Any teller can process the deposit. The contact person at the bank is David Webb, (208) 383-7830, davidwebb@usbank.com if you would like additional information.

Please keep Brodie and his whole family in your thoughts and prayers as they work their way through these difficulties.

Crane Creek Country Club is resurfacing it's indoor courts in April and had a record number of home teams this season thus causing a few neutral site matches for Crane Creek home teams.  If a Crane Creek team is listed as a home team at a facility that is not their normal facility they will serve as the home team for these matches and will be expected to provide balls.  Crane Creek teams should review their schedules, access their neutral site matches and read important information regarding those sites (either Boise Parks and Recreation site or Joint School District No. 2 site) and follow the procedures for those locations.  As the indoor courts do not have a set date on when resurfacing will begin, 7:30 p.m. matches April 21-May 2 may need to be rescheduled as there will not be enough daylight time to finish these matches outdoors.  The Idaho Tennis Association will be notifying teams affected by this possibility on April 14th (one week before any 7:30 pm Crane Creek matches are scheduled) as to whether the courts will be done in time for their matches to remain at Crane Creek.  Crane Creek has offered to move some of the matches to available weekends they have or the IdTA will find another facility to schedule the matches out of on the same date and time.  Please be reviewing your emails on April 14th as to how to proceed.

Matches at the River City Racquet and Swim Club as well as Hillcrest Country Club may have some of their team matches split up between indoor and outdoor courts.  Please note that at Hillcrest Country Club there will only be four courts available between April 14-May 11 and one match will need to be sent to a nearby public court to be played.  Hillcrest will have five courts for matches starting May 12 (4 outdoor and 1 indoor).

Captains playing out of facilities under the direction of Boise Parks and Recreation will be emailed a facility reservation contract for the following facilities: Borah High School, Camelsback, Capital High School, Cassia Park, East Jr. High, Fairmont, Hillside Jr. High, Ivywild, Julia Davis, Les Bois Jr. High, Manitou, Owyhee Park, Riverglen Jr. High, South Jr. High, Sunset, Timberline High School, West Jr. High, Williams Park and Winstead Park.
--The home team captain is responsible for bringing it to to the match to show that your team has three to five courts reserved for match play depending on the number of reservable courts.  Unfortunately due to the limited number of five court sites if your USTA Adult 18 & Over league match with five lines (two singles and three doubles) is scheduled at a four court facility then only three courts are reserved for your match as one court needs to be left open for the public.  USTA Adult 55 & Over and IdTA Spring Daytime Doubles league matches will only require three courts for their match play and thus will not need to send teams to off court sites; one court still needs to remain open for the public at all Boise Parks and Recreation facilities.  Captains are encouraged to send two of their matches to a two court park facility nearby your home court location to play their matches as two court facilities are not reservable and players can jump on any open court at two court sites.  If you are playing out of a six or more court facility then five courts have been reserved for your league play.
--Captains need to show this reservation contract if they are going to ask public players to relinquish the number of courts they have reserved for league play use.  Players cannot ask public players to relinquish the courts if they do not have their facility reservation form present and they cannot ask them to leave prior to their reservation start time.  Teams only have the courts reserved for the 1.5 hours listed on the reservation form.
--Please note that school practices and school team matches take precedence.  League players and public players need to wait until the school has relinquished all of the courts before any other use, even if a league match is scheduled to occur. League players need to wait until the school’s practice or match is over even if courts are available as players should not be warming-up or playing their matches during school play.  Idaho Tennis does its best to avoid Varsity and Junior Varsity match play days, but reschedules may occur due to weather issues.

Captains playing out of facilities under the direction of Joint School District No. 2 are not reservable, these facilities are: Centennial High School, Eagle High School, Heritage Middle School, Lewis and Clark Middle School, Meridian High School, Mountain View High School and Rocky Mountain High School.  League matches scheduled at these facilities do not take precedence over any other tennis play at this facility. School practices and team matches take precedence over any other tennis play at this facility. League players and public players need to wait until the school has relinquished all of the courts before any other use, even if a league match is scheduled to occur. Idaho Tennis does its best to avoid Varsity and Junior Varsity match play days, but reschedules may occur due to weather issues.  League players need to wait until the school’s practice or match is over even if courts are available as players should not be warming-up or playing their matches during school play.  In addition, league players may not remove public players or ask them to leave the courts for league matches.  These are facilities that are technically not reservable and thus these operations are in place. If this facility is in use captains should agree to use available courts (if the public is playing), wait until courts open up, move to another location or agree on a reschedule date.  School play is scheduled to wrap-up by May 18th, 2014.  By following these operations schools and leagues can work together to co-exhist which allows players use of these facilities for league now and in the future. League play at certain facilities has already been limited from the actions of a few league players not adhering to these operations.  School matches and practices should not occur on Saturdays or Sundays.

Finally, it is every captain's and player's responsibility to know the rules and regulations of the game of tennis.  Every player should have a copy of the 2014 Idaho District Regulations and Operating procedures available during match play to reference if needed.  Click HERE to access the League Regulations web page to download your copy.  This is where players can find important information on league requirements, rain outs, refunds, etc.
