2014 Treasure Valley USTA Mixed 40 & Over and IdTA Twilight Schedules Published Online

posted Jul 3, 2014, 1:53 PM by IdTennis Leagues   [ updated Jul 3, 2014, 1:56 PM ]

BOISE, Idaho - The 2014 Treasure Valley USTA Mixed 40 & Over and IdTA Twilight schedules have been published online for all levels.  Players can access their team schedules from TennisLink

Both league runs July 14-August 22.  Teams play 1-2 matches a week and may overlap other USTA, ITA and IdTA leagues. Click HERE for more info.

Captains can add players to their teams throughout the season.  Contact League Recruiter Alfredo Guerrero if you need additional players at leagues@idtennis.com or at 208-322-5150, ext. 202.

Matches at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club will be indoors.  Please review the attached PDF for the specific courts you will play on; written notification will also be available at the BRSC front desk.

Captains playing out of facilities under the direction of Boise Parks and Recreation will be emailed a facility reservation contract for the following facilities: Camelsback, Fairmont, Hillside, Ivywild, Julia Davis, Les Bois, Manitou, Sunset, Timberline High School,  West Jr. High, Williams Park and Winstead Park.

--The home team captain is responsible for bringing the facility reservation form to the match to show that the team has three courts reserved for match play.  One court at each facility is to be left open to the public.

--Captains need to show this reservation contract if they are going to ask public players to relinquish the number of courts they have reserved for league play use.  Players cannot ask public players to relinquish the courts if they do not have their facility reservation form present and they cannot ask them to leave prior to their reservation start time.  Teams only have the courts reserved for the 1.5 hours listed on the reservation form.

Captains playing out of the following facilities are not reservable: Centennial High School, Heritage Middle School and Lewis and Clark Middle School.  League matches scheduled at these facilities do not take precedence over any other tennis play at this facility.  League players may not remove public players or ask them to leave the courts for league matches.  These are facilities that are technically not reservable and thus these operations are in place. If this facility is in use captains should agree to use available courts (if the public is playing), wait until courts open up, move to another location or agree on a reschedule date.  By following these operations schools and leagues can work together to co-exhist which allows players use of these facilities for league now and in the future. League play at certain facilities has already been limited from the actions of a few league players not adhering to these operations.

For a tennis facility reference to find your home court site or to find nearby facilities near your site please click HERE.

Finally, it is every captain's and player's responsibility to know the rules and regulations of the game of tennis.  Every player should have a copy of the 2014 Idaho District Regulations and Operating procedures available during match play to reference if needed.  Click HERE to access the League Regulations web page to download your copy.  This is where players can find important information on league requirements, rain outs, refunds, etc.

Joining Leagues – Tales From a New Tennis Player

posted Jun 17, 2014, 11:28 AM by IdTennis Leagues

"I joined a tennis league for the very first time 3 years ago, after giving in to some pretty heavy persuasion from a new league coordinator and friend. She knew that I was athletic and felt that tennis could be a fun new sport to try. I was hesitant at first. I had never played tennis, didn't know anything about tennis, and was quite positive everyone would be better than I was.  Which is something, strangely, I am not fond of.  As I walked up to the first match of my life, I was nervous. Were the players going to be tennis snobs? Where they going to judge me for my cheap racquet bought quickly at a Fred Meyer the day before? I didn't want to commit to a real racquet, what if I didn't like it? These fears quickly subsided as I was greeted with friendly waves and welcoming “hellos”. The match went as expected for a first time player, but I was no longer worried about the other players. They were happy to welcome a new member into the tennis family, and gave great tips and advice.

Since that first league experience I have joined several more. I even entered a few tournaments. Being in a league has helped me grow as a player, and has helped me meet some really great people.  To those who are tentative about joining a league: give it a try! From one newbie to the next, it’s not as intimidating as you may think.  To those who are veterans: recruit some new blood! Share what an awesome experience the tennis community can be, and help it grow."

-Katie Pelazini, Treasure Valley league player since 2012

USTA Adult 55 & Over District Championship Dates: August 1-3 (Idaho Falls)

2014 USTA ADULT 55 & OVER LEAGUE DISTRICT ADVANCEMENT

Men 6.0

Since there is only one local league at this level, the winning team of that flight automatically qualifies for the Section Championships.

Women 6.0

The number of automatic bids is two.  The championship format is a triple round robin with each team playing three matches.

Men 7.0

The number of automatic bids is three.  The championship format is a double round robin with each team playing four matches.

Women 7.0

The number of automatic bids is four.  The championship format is a single round robin with each team playing three matches.

Men 8.0

The number of automatic bids is three.  A wildcard was granted to the Treasure Valley area for a total of four advancing teams.  The championship format is a single round robin with each team playing three matches.

Women 8.0

The current number of automatic bids is three, however the Sun Valley area has not been created yet and will not be created until July so we are unsure of Sun Valley’s teams for all levels, but Sun Valley had an 8.0 team last season and may have an 8.0 team this year.  At this time with three automatic advancements the championship format is a double round robin with each team playing four matches.

If the Sun Valley qualifies a team (for a total of four advancing teams) the championship format would be a single round robin with each team playing three matches.  A wildcard will not be granted regardless of whether or not a Sun Valley team is created.

Men 9.0

Since there is only one local league at this level, the winning team of that flight automatically qualifies for the Section Championships.

Women 9.0

There are no teams at this level.

2014 FLIGHT PLAYOFFS POLICY

A Flight playoff structure including the top two teams in each flight will be scheduled for teams at NTRP levels that were divided into separate flights for local league play.

The first place team in Flight A will play the second place team in Flight B and vice versa.  The two winning teams will then be eligible to advance to District Championships.  This flight playoff date will be set by the Area League Coordinator at the beginning of the local league season.

An altered flight playoff structure including the top three teams in each flight may be scheduled.  In an uneven ratio of flights to team advancing, top teams of each flight may earn automatic advancement to districts while second or third place teams advance to play-offs to vie for the remaining district advancements.  The Idaho Tennis Association office will be in contact with the captains of the teams to discuss the details should this possibility arise.

7.0 Women’s Flight Playoff: The 2014 USTA Adult 55 & Over Flight Playoff is June 21.  The top two teams of each flight will compete in a flight playoff match from opposing flights.  The winner of each cross flight playoff will advance to Districts.

7.0 WOMEN’S FLIGHT PLAYOFF FORMAT:

MATCH 1: 1st Place Team Flight A vs. 2nd Place Team Flight B = Winner Advances to Districts

MATCH 2: 1st Place Team Flight B vs. 2nd Place Team Flight A = Winner Advances to Districts
